Now Jeepin' it in Idaho !!1!11

I'd been looking for an older jeep under $5,000 for about a year now, I was at work when I saw the ad. It was an '87 AMC Wrangler for only $2,999! I knew right away it was going to have mechanical problems but fortunately, my son is a mechanic. :welder: My boss let me out early so I hauled butt home to grab up my daughter and go look at it. Took me an hour to drive there and when I did get there, I didn't see it.. someone was already out driving it! It did come back though, the guy seemed a little disgusted by what he saw under the hood and tried to barter with the owner who wouldn't budge so the guy left. Yay it's mine now! :bootyshake: Didn't have to do too much.. replaced the spark plugs, filters, valve cover gasket, and fixed a radiator hose. Runs great! Blue booked it at $6,900 so I think I got a pretty good deal. Most importantly, I have regained my love of driving. I used to groan when my daughter needed a ride somewhere, now I'm making excuses to go and tend to not come back for four hours. :purple:

just bought a 88 cherokee

Hi everybody. My names Andy I just bought an 88 cherokee pioneer for my girlfriend for her first car. I'm 18 and I'm learning my way around cars and going for an automotive program. I'm looking forward to fixing it up :) its 4x4, auto, the interior is pretty comfy, and the engine runs pretty good considering 200+K miles. The guy selling it told me the radiator was going to need replacing so I found one at a junkyard for 40 bucks which was in really good shape. We drove it for about 10-15 mins to get dinner and the overflow started smoking. When we pulled the radiator its easy to see the fins were swollen in a few places. Took a few trips to advanced auto but got it running great :D. The only question I have about that is the sensor that was in the old radiator. The new one was from a 91 and didn't have a spot for the sensor to plug into. The water temp gauge was still reading, so I'm not sure why there was another sensor. Also was wondering what sort of guage this is? I have a new gauge cluster because the odometer and fuel gauge dont work on the old one. I can't link pictures yet but its a rectangle, then a triangle next to it. Its on the lower left gauge on the 88 cluster The steering seemed to have some play in it. It would tilt a few degrees in either direction before any response was given but once it was past that point it would turn perfectly. Could this be fluid or worn parts? This is my first 4x4, what does trans power/comfort mean? The oil (pressure?) gauge was hanging around right at 60 at 65mph, is this normal? Other than those things it just needs some new weather stripping and some other small parts and it'll be in great shape. I'm going to be doing seafoam (gas, oil, crankcase) and then giving it new plugs and oil. Also going to change out the brake fluid and power steering if you guys think the steering is from that. Sorry for all the questions just want to make sure everythings good. When I get 5 posts I'll post some pictures up :). Thanks for all the help

Minor Adjustments

Ok i just got my first cherokee. There are a couple of things that may be wrong with the car. Ok the first is a ticking coming from the front right, i think the Hub is bad. The next is that the front right tire sits back slightly in the wheel well, i know there is a way to adjust it. The next is a slight oil drip under the oil pan/or the front of the trans. Not sure which. But what is common on leaking in the 4.0l Auto 4x4 cherokee sport. Any help on any of these thins would be amazing. thanks everyone. PS. is there any good jeep mechanics near metro detroit that anyone on here knows about. Like someone who does a good price labor and good work. Thanks.

hello all!

I'm new to the group and a fairly new owner of an 82CJ. I'll be looking for some help and hopefully I'll be able to provide some help once I gain some experience! I got hooked on a trip to Colorado where my wife and I rented a wrangler and went trailing in the mountains - awesome! My CJ is rough but it will be fun! Later, 05renegade - yes I also own a family daily driver Jeep - an 05 Renegade Liberty.

Intake Manifold question.

#6 looks odd... #5 (and the rest of them... 4,3,2,1) Look a bit dirty/gooy on the inside. Which is normal looking becuase that is where the fuel injection is being taken place... But #6 looks dry/ clean and that worries me becuase its the only one that looks like that. Is fuel not getting to it?

nice scrambler for 4G!

1983 CJ-8 Jeep Scrambler (http://cincinnati.craigslist.org/car/737695499.html) this is NOT my ad.. i dont know the owner... i just figured that someone here could use a scrambler for 4 grand. "I have a 1983 Jeep Scrambler for sale. I-4 "Iron Duke" motor, T-5 trans, Dana 300 t/c, AMC 20 rear axle, Dana 30 front axle, 2-3" body lift, Warn hubs, 100K miles. Clean Ohio title. Scramblers are harder to find every year and this is a pretty good one, but not perfect. Most are either $15,000 totally restored or $1,500 totally rotted out. This is in the middle. It's not restored, but it is road worthy, can be driven home, starts everytime. I just spent $730 on new front brakes(pads, rotors, calipers and lines) and a new front axle U-joint. It's got some rust, but the frame's pretty good and you're not going to put your foot through the floorboards. New 31x10.50 R15 Buckshot Mudder tires on new Pro Comp 15x8 black steel wheels. Hard top and hard doors, soft half doors and bikini top. Rear swing out spare tire carrier with good full-size spare. Hefty aftermarket front and rear steel bumpers. New seat covers. Rhino-lined interior. Everything works except a few dash gauges/lights/stuff. The heat and fan work but I had the cable disconnected because I couldn't turn it off and it's summer. The odometer JUST, on 6/24/08 hit 99999.9 miles and is stuck AND I CAN PROVE IT!!!. This is ready to wheel OR ready to restore. Or you can just drive it to work everyday. Would make a killer hunting vehicle too. I'm selling because I just don't drive it much and have lost the desire to build it up. I have many more pics that I can send. May consider trades for a nice golf cart or 4x4 ATV. Call Ben at (513)720-1510 LM, or e-mail. Copy e-mails to 2nd e-mail address, bmeyer@andersontownship.org."

Bosch's new Wideband O2 senor

Bosch's new Wideband O2 senor introduced in 2003, are suppose to give the most accurat reading, and reach their operating temperatures faster than the primal O2 senors. I'm thinking to get my hand on one of these because apperantly you need to switch out your O2 seonsor about every 50,000 miles. Anything to increase performance!
